The Sun: Ex-Inland Empire FBI agent pleads not guilty to corruption

A former FBI agent indicted on several corruption charges alleging he stole over $100,000 in money from drug seizures has pleaded not guilty.

Scott M. Bowman, 44, of Moreno Valley was charged with three counts of conversion of property by a federal employee, three counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of money laundering, one count of falsification of records and one count of witness tampering.

He made his plea Thursday in U.S. District Court in Riverside.

Bowman allegedly took money for personal use obtained from seizures during his time on a joint taskforce known as the San Bernardino Gang Impact Team, or GIT, the federal indictment, issued Wednesday, read.

Bowman is suspected of using the stolen money to purchase a 2012 Dodge Challenger coupe ($43,850), a 2013 Toyota Scion FR-S coupe ($27,500), new equipment for both cars including speakers, rims and tires ($26,612), cosmetic surgery for his spouse ($15,000) and depositing approximately $10,665 into a checking account.

The indictment also says he’s suspected of using a portion of the money to pay for a weekend stay at a luxury hotel, casino and resort in Las Vegas.

“As alleged, former Agent Bowman put his own greed above the trust placed in him by the FBI and the American public,” Assistant Attorney General Caldwell said in a Thursday news release.
